Montreal’s Club Soda turned into a full-blown fever dream as Angine de Poitrine delivered one of the most chaotic, creative, and unforgettable shows the city has seen this year. After their moment of fame from KEXP, this was officially billed as the Montreal launch of Vol. II. The sold-out night felt less like a concert and more like witnessing a cult phenomenon hit critical mass.
Before the moment the duo hit the stage, the room was locked in. Their signature masks, absurdist stage presence, and total refusal to follow any normal rock formula only added to the anticipation. Then came the music: dizzying time changes, guitar runs, pounding drums, and grooves that somehow stayed danceable through all the madness.
What makes Angine de Poitrine so exciting live is their balance between technical skill and pure fun. They can play with math-rock precision one second, then pivot into something primal and hilarious the next. The crowd responded accordingly… equal parts headbanging, laughing, and staring in disbelief.
Tracks from Vol. II sounded even bigger on stage, with sharper edges and more confidence than their studio versions. Every stop-start riff and explosive drum fill landed like a punchline and a knockout blow at once. Even people unfamiliar with the songs were pulled in fast.
But beyond the gimmicks and mystery, what stood out most was how real the momentum feels. This wasn’t just internet hype spilling into a venue, it was a band fully in command of a room, with fans treating every strange moment like gospel.
Montreal has no shortage of great live acts, but few can create this kind of atmosphere.
